Linda Dobbs is constantly surprising the members of Fidalgo Island Rotary. From her sultry singing voice, to her prowess at the ukulele, to the way she can turn on her "teacher glare" to quiet even Chris Frost, we're always amazed at her skills. But this week, we learned even more about the legendary Linda — she has a knack for selecting NFL football winners. Linda took the top spot in our Rotary Weekly Football Raffle, put on by member Kurt Nelson. Each week, Kurt provided members with a scoresheet, and, for a $2 buy-in, members could select their picks for the week's games. At the end of regular season, Linda has the best winning percentage — 67%! Watch out Vegas; here comes Linda! Click to see the rest of the winners, and to learn how to participate in the Super Bowl Grid Square Game that Kurt is putting on.
At the beginning of the 2019-20 NFL football season, Kurt brought the idea of the Weekly Football Raffle to the club. The game was also a fundraiser, as half of the weekly $2 buy-in was donated to the Rotary Foundation, with the other given to the week's winner. By the end of the season, the game had raised $141 for the Rotary Foundation.

While Linda Dobbs had the best winning percentage at 67%, Charles Yousling came in second with 66%, and Steve Rutz came in third with 65%.
In the category of most money earned, Steve took first place with $29, Val Tibbetts took second with $22 and Kurt took third with $21.
In the final category of most overall winning teams picked, Kurt took first with 167 correct selections, Val took second with 163, and Dave Sem took third with 161 correct selections.

Val took home several prizes, and became our most decorated Football Raffle Rotarian. Go Val!

During the 17 weeks of NFL football 20 Rotarian's participated at least once, 9 participated at least half the time, and 3 participated every week.

Still hankering for some football wagers? Fear not — Kurt has the answer for that as well!

For the Super Bowl game on Sunday, Feb. 2, we have a Grid Square Game! The game board has 100 squares, with each square costing $2. The payouts will be by quarter with the 1st and 3rd quarter score paying $15, the half time score paying $20, and the final score paying out $50.  Squares can be purchased from Kurt during January during the regular Tuesday morning meetings, with the numbers selected randomly once all the squares are purchased at the Jan. 28 morning meeting.
