At the beginning of each year, Fidalgo Island Rotary celebrates its founding in 1997. In 2023, we celebrated our 26th year as a club. Our fabulous emcee for the night, Kim Kimmy, provided a great summary of the club and accomplishments so far.
2022-23 Accomplishments Thus Far
COMMUNITY Accomplishments
- Provided Connie Kelley Vocational Scholarship to 3 local students:
    - Oswaldo Bonilla-Martinez:  $2,500, Studying to be a diesel mechanic
    - Wendy Smith: $4,000, Studying to be a drug counselor
    - Kelsie Spurgeon:  $4,000, Studying to be a nurse
- STEM Camp August 2022
    We had 20 students with 8 different activities over 4 days
- Youth Engaged in Service (YES)
    10 Students with Club sponsoring Tania Corona Lemus
    International Service Project in Honduras June 2023
- Helped Sponsor a Student conducting a service project in Ecuador
- Helped Sponsor a local Girls Traveling Softball Team
- Supported Troop 911 Scouts composed of 10 boy members 
    Earned 72 Merit Badges
    190 Coummunity Service Hours
    151 Days Camping 
    224 Miles Hiked
- Supported Troop 4060 Scouts composed of 5 girl members
    Earned 28 Merit Badges
    182 Community Service Hours

- Gift cards to IRIS (Immigrant Resources & Immediate Support)
- Clothing for Rachels Closet for the holidays
- Sponsored the Gingerbread Contest at Celebrate the Season
- Participated in the Anacortes Christmas Parade with the John Deere Rotarians
- Sponsored Dinner at the Brick
- Hands on cleanup at Tommy Thompson Trail and the Anacortes Cemetery
INTERNATIONAL Accomplishments
- Supported our El Chilar school in Honduras:  $1,528
- Supported IPA (International Project Alliance) projects in Honduras:  $6,000
- Supported our adopted Village La Laguna in Honduras:  $3,657
- Contributed $4,000 to the Miller Medical Missions
- Contributed $7,000 towards the purchase of a van for the Heart of Hope Orphanage in Romania
 
A fun event with a total of 40 in attendance (26 members/honorary members).
